Abstract

1452240 Top supported vapour generators BABCOCK & WILCOX CO 12 Dec 1974 [12 Dec 1973] 53749/74 Heading F4A A once-through forced flow vapour generator is supported by upright members 24 which are secured to cross-beams 26 of a support framework and to the inner casing 76 of a roof 22 and which pass through elongate openings 68 in an outer casing 58 of the roof; upturned flanges 70 extending along the openings, bridging plates 72 lying across the flanges between the members 24, and plates 74 secured to the members 24 being fitted over the plates 72 to allow relative movement between the inner and outer casings i.e. movement of the members 24 with respect to the outer casing 58. The plates 72 have downturned flanges 82 spaced from the flanges 70 to allow movement and plates 74 have flanges 86 slidable along the flanges 82. Rigid insulation 78 in the form of calcium silicate blocks is disposed between the casings except in the region of the openings 68 where compressible insulation 80 is used. The outer casing is formed of heavy gauge metal plates welded at 62 and the openings 68 are arranged on it in a regular lattice. Certain of the members 24 are constrained by bars 64, 66 welded on to the flanges 70 and can move only along one of two perpendicular axes X-X or Y-Y corresponding to the centre lines of the roof.
