Abstract
1452032 Locks GOAL CO Ltd 4 Jan 1974 00396/74 Heading E2A A lock comprises a cylinder lock 17, a lock case 11 to which a knob for use inside a door is mounted so as to be capable of being turned and a knob 13 for use outside the door is rigidly fixed and wherein a latch bolt 16 is released either by turning the inside knob or by operating the cylinder lock 17 incorporated in the outside knob and a solenoid 20 which controls the movement of a locking member 25 for the purpose of preventing the latch bolt from being released by the operation of the cylinder lock. The cylinder lock 17 is connected by a rod 18 to an actuator 19 with a terminal hook for actuating the bolt 16. The internal handle 12 is connected to a spindle 14 with a terminal hook for actuating the bolt. The locking member 25 projects from one end of a plunger 23 and is urged by a spring 24 to engage in a slot 19' of the actuator 19 and is prevented from turning by engaging in a groove 26' of the lock case. The locking member thereby obstructs turning of the actuator to release the bolt 16, when the solenoid 20 is actuated plunger 23 is withdrawn to withdraw the locking member 25 from the slot 19' to allow rotation of the actuator 19 and withdrawal of the bolt when the lock 17 is actuated. The locking member may be retained in locking and unlocking positions intermittently by a device 30 actuated by the current flowing intermittently. The device comprises a rotor 33 rotatably connected to one end of the plunger 23 and rotatable within two interconnected rings 31, 32. The ring 31 has internal protrusions 31A, and the ring 32 has a deep slot 32A and a shallow slot 32B. The rotor has a tooth 34 which engages slot 32A when the locking member is operative when the solenoid is actuated the tooth strikes a tapered surface 31 and causing the rotator to turn through the pitch of one tooth and engage slot 32B when the current is switched off, thus holding the locking member in the inoperative position. When the solenoid is again actuated the operation is repeated and the pin 34 engages the next deep slot 32A. Thus locking is effected intermittently to prevent the coil being burnt out. Locking may also be effected intermittently by using a solenoid with a ferromagnetic core 22 which is alternately magnetised and demagnetised by changing the direction of current which flows in the exiting coil 21. The solenoids of a number of locks may be controlled from a caretakers' room though any room can be left by operating the inside handle. The solenoids may be in circuit with two micro switches operated by the locking members and by opening and closing the doors respectively connected to a lamps L and a buzzers B this permits continuous surveillance of a number of locks. The solenoid may be actuated by a card reader which is used on another door such as a porch door, whereby the lock may be actuated only by a person who has a key and a card reader.
