Abstract
1451952 Heating resistors UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 25 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 4960/73 Heading H5H Electrical connectors 2, 3 between the N.T.C. refractory metal oxide furnace heating resistor 1 and terminal members 7 and 8 which are at room temperature are made of lanthanum strontium chromite. The connectors are preferably made by subjecting the oxide and a binder to isostatic pressure. The oxide may be made by mixing specified proportions of decomposable compounds of lanthanum strontium and chromium and calcining. The compounds may for example be in the form of solutions of salts, such as nitrates, of lanthanum, strontium and chromium. The resistor 1 comprises a tube of zirconia-yttria or zirconiacalcia, and it is initially rendered conducting by a withdrawable preheater 9 which comprises a nickel-chrome platinum or silicon carbide heating coil in an alumina tube 10. The terminal members 7, 8 are of water cooled copper. A spring (not shown) or gravity urges connectors 2, 3, resistor 1 and terminal member 7, 8 together. A zirconia heat shield 6 mounted in fire brick surround 4 encloses resistor 1.
