1450713 Azoxy-benzenes SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 27 Nov 1973 [6 Dec 1972 13 March 1973] 54729/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] A nematic liquid crystal compound of the formula or its isomer, where X is alkyl and X<SP>1</SP> is alkoxy or acyloxy is prepared by esterification or alkylation of a p-alkyl-p<SP>1</SP>-hydroxyphenylazobenzene and oxidizing the product with acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide. The azobenzene compound is prepared via diazotization of an alkylaniline. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,418,441.
