Abstract
1449602 Alkaline earth metal sulphides production A VECHT G BIRD and M QUDDUS 22 Nov 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 40557/72 Heading C1A Sulphides of alkaline earth metals (including magnesium) are prepared by dissolving the metal in an alcohol adding H 2 S to form the hydrosulphide, which is precipitated and then fired (e.g. in an inert or sulphurizing atmosphere) to form the sulphide. In the examples the metal is Ba, Sr or Ca, the. alcohol is methanol or ethanol, the hydrosulphide is either formed as a precipitate or is precipated by acetone; and the firing temperature is 800-1200‹ C.
