Abstract
1449009 Space heaters SCHEU MFG CO 20 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 44196/73 Heading F4W A space heating appliance comprises a cylindrical primary combustion chamber 12 having a vertical wall 20, a floor 22 and a cover 24; a nozzle assembly 16 arranged to direct a spray of fuel 28 through an aperture 30; and a secondary combustion chamber 18 having an upper stack portion 36 and a lower stack portion 38 provided with apertures 40. The cover 24 includes apertures 32 for primary air. An air gap is also provided around the nozzle inlet at 30. The chamber 12 includes a shield 34 which extends from the cover 24 to the floor 22. A small gap is left between the central portion of the shield 34 and the floor 22, to prevent unburnt fuel from accumulating behind the shield. In operation, a spark initiates primary combustion in the central area of the chamber 12. The shield acts to stabilize the flame and to provide uniform heat distribution. Secondary combustion takes place in 18 to remove any pollutants. The appliance may be used in conjunction with a number of similar appliances, the fuel lines being controlled by a single common fuel supply.
