Abstract

1448661 Polymer-coated rigid substrates DU PONT OF CANADA Ltd 8 Jan 1975 [8 Jan 1974] 815/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A coated rigid substrate 3, e.g. for use as a concrete form board, is provided with holes 6 each having a cross-sectional area at the coated surface of at least 0.005 sq. in. and spaced with centres 0,25 to 4 ins. apart, the holes having a cross-sectional area which increase, at least for part of their depth, to at least 10% more than the cross-sectional area at the coated surface, the coating 2 being of solid thermoplastic material which penetrates at least to the part of the holes which are of increased crosssection. The holes may penetrate through the substrate (not shown) or only penetrate part way. As shown, holes penetrate one ply 4 of a multiply substrate. Suitable coating materials are polystyrene, h.'d. polyethylene p.v.c., or linear copolymers of ethylene with 1-butene, 1- pentene, 1-octene, 1 decene or polyvinylacetate, asphalt, tar, bitumen, polyamide (e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide), polyester, polymethylmethacrylate or an ionomer. Suitable substrates are metal, wood, plywood or particle board which may be planar or contoured, or cut into a prearranged pattern. The polymer may be applied by extrusion, solution, dispersion, powder or fluidised bed coating. An adhesive layer may be interposed between the substrate and the coating.
