Abstract

1445671 Printing from developed electrostatic images XEROX CORP 19 April 1974 [23 April 1973] 17245/74 Heading B6C In an electrostatic printing process, wherein charged particles forming a developed latent image on a support surface are transferred to a receiving material by means of an electrically biased transfer member carrying the receiving material, the bias potential is automatically varied to compensate for variation in resistivity of the transfer member due to changes in relative humidity or variation in resistivity of different receiving materials. The process is particularly applicable to multi-colour electrophotographic apparatus, Fig. 1 (not shown), where a transfer roller 38 is connected in parallel with a biasing circuit, Fig. 5, including voltage source 90 and a resistance element 92. In preferred embodiments, a corona generator (36), Fig. 1 (not shown), provides an A.C. potential prior to transfer to precondition the charged particles, and the transfer roller 38 is made up of two layers of resilient material surrounding a conductive core.
