1444983 Sludge treatment WIBAU WESTDEUTSCHE INDUSTRIE - U STRASSENBAUMASCHINEN GmbH 7 Aug 1973 [12 Aug 1972] 37459/73 Heading C1C Proteins in sewage sludge are precipitated by contacting the sludge (optionally in admixture with clarified water and/or rain water) with gases arising from the combustion of solid waste or refuse (optionally in admixture with gases from sludge drying and/or superheated steam) said gases being at 600-800 C. and containing SO 2 , SO 3 , HCl and HF. The contacting may be effected in a scrubber in which the sludge attains a pH of 6À0-6À3 and a temp. not above 50 C. After settling and centrifuging, the proteinaceous sludge may be dried (to 25% H 2 O content) by direct or indirect content with the aforesaid combustion gases, then fed to the refuse burner; and the separated liquor may be recycled to the activated sludge plant.
