Abstract
1444946 Catalyst supports, oxidation catalysts U O P INC 10 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 57056/73 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] Catalyst supports comprise a film of alumina having a surface area greater than 25 m<SP>2</SP>/g and containing 1-30 wt % CaO, SrO or BaO (based on the weight of the film) deposited on a refractory of surface area less than 5 m<SP>2</SP>/g. Catalytic materials which may be deposited on the supports are platinum group metals or copper oxide which oxide may be promoted with an oxide of iron, cobalt, nickel, tin, vanadium, chromium or manganese. In an example a cordierite honeycomb is dip coated with an alumina slurry, dried and calcined to give a γ-alumina coating, impregnated with chloroplatinic acid and barium hydroxide solutions, dried and reduced in hydrogen.
