Abstract
1444110 Silicon - containing copolymers POLYCON LABORATORIES Inc 28 Dec 1973 60058/73 Headings C3P and C3S [Also in Division G2] Copolymers suitable for contact lenses are formed from 10-60 parts of a compound of the formula in which X and Y are C 1 -C 5 alkyl, phenyl or Z-, Z- is of the formula A is C 1 -C 5 alkyl or phenyl, R is methyl or hydrogen, m is 1-5 and n is 1-3 and 90-40 parts of a C 1 -C 20 alkyl (meth)acrylate. Other monomers may be added to increase the hydrophilic properties, e.g. hydroxyethyl methacrylate, or as cross-linking agents, e.g. ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. Pentamethyl disiloxanyl methyl methacrylate is prepared by reacting pentamethylchloromethyldisiloxane with methacrylic acid in the presence of triethylamine; tris(trimethylsiloxy)methacrylatopropylsilane is prepared by reacting trimethoxy methacrylatopropylsilane with trimethyl acetoxysilane in the presence of ethylsulphuric acid.
