Abstract

1443402 Blended tobacco containing cigarettes OLIN CORP 20 Aug 1974 [26 Sept 1976] 36570/74 Heading A2C The smoking charge of cigarettes comprises at least three segments each constituting at least 10% of the length of the cigarette and consisting of a uniform blend of tobacco and a tobacco substitute so distributed that the substitute is present in progressively increasing amounts toward the butt end the segment at the lighted end consisting of pure tobacco if desired. The smoking charge may comprise four segments as shown in Fig. 1 where A B C D contain increasing amounts of tobacco from A to D. A preferred substitute is shredded carbon filled paper made from cellulose fibre. Additionally CaCO 3 may be used as an inert filler and the carbon filled paper may be treated with oxidation catalysts such as alkali metal hydroxides, bicarbonates and carbonates.
