Abstract

1443316 Mounting electric motors BRUSH ELECTRICAL MACHINES Ltd 9 Oct 1973 [16 Sept 1972] 43023/72 Heading B7H In a railway vehicle having a driven axle 2 journalled by resiliently-mounted bearings 6, 7 in bogie frame members 16, 17 and driven by an electric motor 12 through a pinion 3 on the motor shaft 5 and a gear wheel 4 on the axle, the motor 12 is supported by clamp members 8, 9 which are each rigidly attached to the motor casing and engage inward extensions of the outer races of the bearings 6, 7. The clamp member 8 is in the form of a split housing for the gears 3, 4, and both clamp members 8, 9 are lined with bearing material 11 which allows rotational and axial movement of the members relative to the outer bearing races. Rotation of the motor 12 around the axle is prevented by one or more support links 14.
