Abstract
1442184 Gas turbine engine combustion equipment GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 1 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45732/73 Headings F1G and F1L The invention relates to an igniter assembly for a gas turbine engine combustion system, the invention being described with reference to a gas turbine ducted fan engine which comprises an outer fan casing 10 and an inner casing 12b which together define the fan duct, also a combustion chamber outer casing 12a and a flame tube 88 which defines the combustion zone 26 and into which the igniter 36 projects. The igniter comprises an outer sleeve 56 surrounding the igniter and freely rotatable with respect thereto, the sleeve having an enlarged portion 58 which is screw-threaded at 60, the outer end of the sleeve being formed with a surface 86 which may be engaged by a spanner for mounting of the igniter. The casing 12a is formed with a boss 66 which is screw-threaded internally to receive a seal ring 62 which is screw-threaded internally to receive the screw 60 on the sleeve 56, the inner end of the sleeve bearing against a flange 46 of the insulator portion 40 of the igniter so as to clamp the flange against a surface of the seal ring 62. The inner end of the igniter 36 is sealed to the wall of the flame tube 88 with provision for relative thermal expansion, a seal member 90 having a frusto-conical surface 95 being secured to the flame tube wall with freedom of movement by means of a member 92 having a pair of legs (93) which are secured to the flame tube wall. The - opening in the casing 12b through which the igniter extends is similarly sealed by means of a member 108 formed with a frusto-conical surface 100 which engages with the sleeve 56 of the igniter. The opening in the outer casing 10 through which the igniter passes is also sealed by means of a freelymounted ring member 110.
