Abstract

1442139 Mine dams NYLEX CORP Ltd 20 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 44244/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division F4] A mine tunnel brattice comprises a hollow flexible structure inflatable by pressurised gas in order to engage the tunnel wall. The structure 11 comprises a pair of end walls 14, 15, an outer perimeter wall 16, central openings in the end walls 14, 15, and an inner perimeter wall 17 defining a central ventilation passage 18. The structure also includes a screen 19 to adjust the area of the ventilation passage. The vertical edges of the screen 19 are fastened to the wall 14 of the structure by a pair of zip fasteners 22. A roller 23 fitted to the bottom edge of the screen and draw cords 24 enable the unzipped part of the screen to be held in a roll. Each end wall 14, 15 includes a gas inlet 25 and a gas outlet 39. The structure is inflated by supplying compressed air through inlet 25, the pressure being monitored by a pressure limiting device (Fig. 7, not shown) attached to the inlet. The structure 11 is made of reinforced polyvinylchloride sheet material electronically high frequency welded to form an air tight vessel.
