Abstract
1440370 Electric battery lamps P G GARRITY 13 Aug 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 38259/73 Heading F4R [Also in Division H2] A handheld flashlight construction comprises a unitary housing 101 having a depending handheld portion in which the battery is disposed and a fixed upper portion including a lens opening 107 which is angled relative to the front wall 104 of the depending portion and in which is disposed a reflctor 110 including a bulb socket 113 having an inturned shoulder 151 defining a seat against which a bulb 117 is retained, and wherein two spring conductors 125, 126 operatively connect the bulb in circuit with the battery, a switch 129 being located in the upper housing portion that co-operates with one end 126B of the spring conductor 126 for moving it into and out of contact with one of the battery terminals. The bulb 117 may have a laterally projecting flange 118 which is snapped into position to be loosely but positively received between the shoulder 115 and bosses 116 disposed on the internal wall of the socket 113. The housing 101 is formed in two complementary halves, Fig. 9 and 14 (not shown), which define a switch opening 130 for locating the switch slide actuator 129, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the lens opening 107 with an adjacent groove 108 for locating the reflector flange 109 and the lens 111. The moulded plastics housing may also have integrally formed therewith ribs 140, 142 and 143 for positioning and locating the reflector and bulb sub-assembly and ribs 119, 122 and 123 for locating the battery. The housing is adapted to accommodate either two cylindrical cell batteries 121, as shown, with a contact spring 124 or a block battery shown dotted at 121A in which case the contact spring 124 is dispensed with. In a modification, Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), an adaptor (160) is disposed in the reflector socket 113 to enable screwthreaded bulbs to be supported by the reflector.
