Abstract

1440276 Polycarbonate composition GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 21 Dec 1973 [5 Jan 1973] 59377/73 Heading C3R A hydrolytically stable water-clear aromatic polycarbonate composition comprises 0À01- 0À5% wt., of the polycarbonate, of an aromatic and/or non-cyclic aliphatic epoxy compound such as glycidol, bisphenol-A-diglycidyl ether, tetrabromobisphenol-A diglycidyl ether, diglycidyl ester of phthalic acid, epoxidized soybean oil, butadiene diepoxide, tetraphenylethylene epoxide, octyl epoxy tallate and epoxidized polybutadiene. In the examples any one of bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether, glycidol, epoxidized soybean oil, epoxidized polybutadiene or diepoxybutane is added to a polycarbonate prepared by passing phosgene through a reaction mixture consisting of bisphenol A, phenol, calcium hydroxide, triethyl amine and methylene chloride. The blend is then pelletized. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,315,976, 1,332,871, 1,342,965 and 1,347,571.
