1440030 Laminates BASF AG 18 Sept 1973 [19 Sept 1972] 43637/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates comprise a sheet comprising a thermoplastic polymer A which contains NH 2 or NH groups, e.g. a polyamide or polyurethane, bonded to a sheet comprising a polymer B which is a homopolymer of a monoolefin of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, a polystyrene or an impactresistant modified polystyrene, the bonding between the two sheets being improved by admixing the polymer A with a copolymer B<SP>1</SP> of 60 to 97% by weight of the monoolefin or styrene whichever is present in polymer B and 40 to 3% by weight of a monoolefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid or an ester or anhydride thereof or a vinyl ester to provide a homogeneous composition containing 98 to 50% by weight of A and 2 to 50% by weight of B<SP>1</SP>, prior to forming the sheet which is bonded to the sheet comprising polymer B. A layer of material which adheres to the polymer A and is selected from thermoplastic polymers, thermosetting polymers, metal and wood may be applied to the sheet of the homogeneous composition A + B<SP>1</SP> on the side opposite from the sheet of the polymer B. Examples describe laminates in which sheets of the following are bonded: (2) a mixture of a polyurethane and a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer bonded to an impact-resistant polystyrene, (3) a mixture of a polymethane and a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer adhered to a polyethylene terephthalate film bonded to an impactresistant polystyrene, (4) a mixture of a polyurethane and a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer bonded on one face to an impactresistant polystyrene and on the other to PVC. (5) A mixture of polycaprolactam and a styrene/ maleic anhydride copolymer bonded to an impact-resistant polystyrene, (6) a mixture of a polyurethane and an ethylene/t-butyl acrylate/ acrylic acid copolymer bonded to a polyethylene and (8) a mixture of a polyurethane and an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer bonded to polyethylene on one face and an ABS polymer on the other.
