Abstract

1439978 Producing uniform fiber caps D G ROWE 19 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 48930/73 Heading D1N A filber lap is formed by sucking fibers against the foraminous surface of a rotating drum 24. The suction pressure applied to the drum is monitored at 50 and the air flow rate compensatively varied e.g. by damper 53. Fiber is fed toward the drum by a chute 23 with vibratory wall members 23e, 23f. The rotation of feed rollers at the base of the chute is also controlled in response to the sensed pressure variations. Rollers 34, 36 and guide plate 35 serve to compress the fibers into contact with the drum surface. The lap so formed is shown feeding a carding machine.
