Abstract
1439869 Vapour depositing magnetic record carriers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 13 Sept 1973 [14 Oct 1972] 43058/73 Heading C7F [Also in Division B2] A magnetic record carrier comprises a metal substrate, e.g. Al-Mg5, an intermediate layer of Cr, Ti, Mn or V, a magnetic layer, e.g. Fe-Co and an outer non-magnetic layer, which may be formed by oxidizing the Fe-Co. The intermediate layer may be partly oxidized by vapour depositing in the presence of oxygen. The Fe-Co may be deposited at an angle of 60 degrees to the substrate normal. The substrate may be pre-heated to 100 to 250C, and the source materials evaporated by electron beam.
