Abstract
1438611 Planetary coolers for rotary furnaces FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK 3 Jan 1974 [3 Jan 1973] 00226/74 Heading F4B In a rotary furnace 12 having planetary cooling tubes 10 each connected to the furnace by a gas-tight feed tube the latter includes a bellows expansion sleeve 36 attached both to the furnace and to the cooling tube and a short tube 26 formed of or lined with refractory material and attached either to the furnace or to the cooling tube. As shown, the tube 26 has a flange 28 bolted to the flange 22 of a short cylindrical portion 20 of the cooling tube the other end being enclosed by a ring 32 of heat resisting steel clamped between flanges 30 and 34. The bellows sleeve 36 comprises two bellows elements 38 connected by a collar 40 and welded to flanges 28 and 34. The entry end of the cooling tube has a frustoconical section facilitating passage of material away from said entry end. The aperture 24 is lined with wear elements 42 of heat resisting steel. The feed tube is inclined in the downstream direction relative to the axis of aperture 24. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4) the tube 26 is fixed at the furnace end and in another modification (Fig. 5) the feed tube is disposed at right angles to the furnace axis.
