Abstract

1438216 Secondary alkyl primary amines TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 21 Oct 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 45517/74 Heading C2C A process for producing secondary alkyl primary amines comprises nitrating a portion of a C 6 -C 30 n-paraffin charge to form a secondary mono-nitroparaffin along with nitrated and oxygenated by-products, hydrogenating the secondary mono-nitroparaffin to give the secondary alkyl primary amine, separating the amine from the mixture of unreacted paraffin, unconverted secondary mono-nitroparaffin and by-products, hydrogenating the mixture in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at hydrogen pressures of 100 to 1500 p.s.i.g., in a plurality of reaction zones in series, the initial hydrogenation being conducted at a temperature of from 250‹ to 500‹ C. and subsequent hydrogenation being conducted at a temperature of from 600‹ to 750‹ F., and recycling the hydrogenated product for nitration with the n-paraffin.
