Abstract

1438136 A child-proof closure for a container P P STEVENS JNR 2 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 46010/73 Heading B8T A child-proof closure 7 for a container 2 provided with engageable means such as slots 22 with abutments 21, comprises a top 8 a slip-on engageable or as shown screw-threaded sleeve 9 for securing with the neck 6 of the container having complementary threads, and a skirt portion 13 hingedly connected to the sleeve 9 via a flexible portion 14, the skirt portion 13 having engageable means such as teeth 23 for entering the slots 22 and abutting the abutments 21 of the container 2 when the closure 7 is screw-threadedly secured on to the container 2 and thereby acting as safety means for preventing the unscrewing of the closure 7, the flexibility of the hinged portion enabling the skirt portion 13 to be inverted to disengage the engageable means and permit removal of the closure 7 from the container 2. The engageable means may comprise one or more locking members on the closure and an equal number of co-operable abutments defining recesses on the container for engaging the locking members. Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). The closure can be made tamper indicating by providing it with a removable flange (31) connected to the skirt portion via score lines (32) which are fractured by pulling a tab (33) Fig. 10 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 12-13 (not shown) teeth 23 extending from the skirt portion (13) engage in recesses (37) provided on the shoulder of the container 2. In another embodiment the engageable means may be formed on a flange portion 62 extending from a frusto conical section of the skirt portion 60, for use in small containers having narrower necks, e.g. squeeze tubes. In the case of a closure of the slip-on type, the skirt portion extends from the top of the closure Fig. 20 (not shown). Also, closures of the screw-threaded types may have their skirt portions 73 extending from the top 71 of the closure.
