Abstract

1438133 Centrifugal photometric analyzers UNION CARBIDE CORP 20 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 44205/73 Heading G1A In a photometric analyzer of the centrifugal type, liquid samples are analyzed in individual cuvets of a rotating disc, and by applying gas under pressure to the apparatus the samples can be transferred to the inner surface of a ring 50, Fig. 1, which rotates with the disc. When the apparatus subsequently slows down the transferred sample fluid 71 falls under gravity to a part of the stationary housing and is removed via tube 79. The initial transfer to the rotating ring avoids splashing which would occur if the analyzed samples were transferred to the stationary housing of the apparatus. The gas-pressure is applied via tubes 60 to the bore 64 of the rotating disc shaft. The disc 10 is shaped to receive reagents and samples, e.g. at 26, 28, which mix under centrifugal action and pass to cuvets 32 for optical analysis. When the gas-pressure is applied the sample fluid passes from regions 33 of cuvets 32 to region 71 via a tube 70, this latter having a siphon shape, Fig. 2 (not shown).
