Abstract

1437499 Variable-speed gearing KOBE STEEL Ltd 21 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972 28 Sept 1973] 59565/73 Heading F2D [Also in Division D1] The variable speed gear shown has a rigid outer ring 71 formed with an internal gear having a first number of teeth, a flexible inner ring 72 formed with an outer gear having a second number of teeth less than said first number, and an elliptical core 73c to urge the inner ring 72 radially outwardly to make the inner gear engage the outer gear at two diametrically opposite regions. The rings 71, 72 thus tend to rotate in unison but by forcing the elliptical core 73c to rotate within the flexible ring 72 the location of the diametrically opposed regions can be changed thus causing a corresponding relative rotation between the rings 71, 72.
