Abstract

1436264 Wrapping material C PECK and G A SKINNER 5 June 1973 [8 June 1972 23 Nov 1972] 26814/73 Heading B8C A tearable wrapper includes a tear strip comprising a thin strip of material having a plurality of small longitudinally spaced-apart thickened portions, the strip extending over the wrapper and one side of the strip being adhered to the wrapper at least at the thickened portions. As shown, a seed tape 2, formed by enclosing plant seeds 4 within a folded-over strip of water soluble material, is fed between rollers 10, 12 where it is moistened with water or with a suitable solvent 14 before being fed between further rollers 16 where it is united with wrapping film 20. The laminated strip and film is then fed to a wrapping machine 28 in which it is wrapped around a box 32, with the strip on the inside of the wrapper and forming a tear tab 44 at its free end. The rollers 16 and the individual seeds may be coated with a resilient material 18 and (48), Fig. 7 (not shown), respectively. The seeds may be replaced by beads or discs of plastics material adhered to a single layer of strip material.
