Abstract
1436254 Bearings INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 July 1973 [23 Aug 1972] 33207/73 Heading F2A An air bearing comprises two bearing members one of which has a concave bearing surface, and the arrangement being such that the clearance between the bearing surfaces of the two members decreases from the centre of the region of bearing engagement to the edge of the region. Air is supplied to the bearing clearance via a throttle in one of the members. The bearing may be a thrust or journal bearing. The concavity may be formed in a bearing surface 9a, Fig. 4, by tightening a nut 12. In a modification, concavities are formed in a sleeve bearing by tightening screws connecting conical collars 22, 23, Fig. 8.
