1435147 Cutting tubes WELDUN TOOL & ENG CO 22 June 1973 29774/73 Heading B3T A tube cutting device comprises a guide tube 10 for guiding the workpiece tube 16, and a sleeve 26 rotatably mounted on the guide tube for rotation coaxial with the axis of the guide tube, the sleeve 26 having mounted thereon adjacent a tube discharge end 20 of the guide tube 10 at least three tube contact means 42 angularly spaced about the guide tube axis, two of said tube contact means being movable radially between inner and outer positions to support or move away from the workpiece tube 16, one other of said tube contact means constituting a cutter blade also movable radially between an inner position wherein the cutter blade will extend through the wall of the workpiece tube 16 and an outer position spaced from said tube, means for rotating the sleeve 26 to rotate the tube contact means 42, and actuator means for moving the tube contact means together from their outer positions into their inner positions during rotation of the sleeve 26 to cut off a portion of the tube 16. The contact means 42 comprise two tube supporting discs 58 and the cutter blade 58<SP>1</SP>, which has a continuous circumferential cutting edge. The discs and blade 58, 58<SP>1</SP> are supported by radially movable slides which have end cam surfaces 72, 72<SP>1</SP>. The actuator means is a camming sleeve 64 having conical cam surface 74 which engages the end cam surfaces in the said slides. The camming sleeve 64 is moved by an actuator 70 and engaging pin 68. The cam surface 72<SP>1</SP> on the slide for the cutter blade 58<SP>1</SP> provides more radial movement to ensure parting-off of the workpiece tube. The camming sleeve 64 is made of two relatively adjustable parts to adjust the radial feed movement of the tube contact means 58, 58<SP>1</SP> for a required tube 16 diameter. An end sleeve 22 of the guide tube 10 is replaceable for different tube 16 sizes. The sleeve 26 is continuously rotatable by a stepped belt drive. The tube contact means 58, 58<SP>1</SP> are moved radially outwards on release of the camming sleeve 64 by combined springs means 62 and centrifugal force.
