Abstract

1434980 Lubricants ENTREPRISE DE RECHERCHES ET D'ACTIVITIES PETROLIERES (ELF) 18 Oct 1973 [19 Oct 1972] 48710/73 Heading C5F Certain heterocyclic compounds of sulphur are useful as additives for lubricants. They have three or more sulphur atoms in the ring, of which at least one pair are bonded directly to one another, and no two neighbouring sulphur atoms are separated by more than one carbon atom, e.g. tetrathianes and trithiolanes, examples of which are given. The base oil may be mineral or synthetic, e.g. alkyl-benzene, esters and polyglycols. Other additives may also be present, e.g. antioxidants, anticorrosives, viscosity-controllers, antifoam agents, demulsifying agents, detergents and dispersants. Uses referred to are for refrigerator compressors and industrial gears.
