Abstract

1434909 Indicators for switches LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 20 Aug 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 42852/72 Heading H1N A knob for a rotary switch has an aperture 14 accommodating a light guide 16 having one end 18 viewable and an opposite end 19 of arcuate form with the axis of the arc lying on the pivot axis A-A of the knob, said end 19 being provided with a plurality of legends thereacross such that, in use, light from a fixed source enters said end 19 and causes one of the legends to be viewable at the end 18 in dependance on the angular position of the knob and thus the condition of the switch. As shown the light guide 16 is of clear acrylic with concavely curved sides 20, 21 and a projection 17 which engages a recess 15 in the knob to retain the guide 16 in position. The legends preferably take the form of different coloured portions 23, 24, 25, 26 on the face 22 of end 19 and may have separating ribs therebetween. The portion 26 may be recessed as shown to allow for axial movement of the knob in one angular position thereof.
