1434119 Quaternary fluoroalkylthioethers E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 16 Nov 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 53301/73 Heading C2C Quaternary fluoroalkylthioethers of general formula wherein n is an integer of 4-14; R 1 and R 2 are each C 1-4 alkyl; R 3 is either C 1-4 alkyl and the quaternary cation has a solubilizing anion (X-) associated with it, or is a covalently bonded group -(CH 2 )qSO 3 - or -(CH 2 ) m COO- in which q is integer 2-4 and m is an integer 1-3, are prepared in conventional manner by quaternization of F(CF 2 ) n CH 2 CH 2 -S-CH 2 CH 2 NR 1 R 2 with R 3 X, ClCH 2 COOH or 1,3-propane sultone. Amongst the examples the compounds and in which n = mixture of 4-14, are prepared. C 6 F 13 (CH 2 ) 2 S(CH 2 ) 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 and the corresponding C 8 F 17 -, C 10 F 21 and C 4-14 F 9-29 -derivatives are prepared by reaction of
