Abstract

1433831 Brake valve handles BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 11 March 1974 [11 April 1973] 17417/73 Heading F2E A manually operable brake valve is operated by a lever 4 on which is slidable a sleeve 7 also slidable on a further sleeve 9 fixed to the lever, the lever passing through a slot 6 in the valve housing and retained in the brake applying position shown by engagement of a steel ferrule 16 on sleeve 7 with a retaining surface 17 at one end of the slot 6. To move the valve to a release position a hand grip 8 of sleeve 7 is gripped and thumb pressure exerted on an end cap of sleeve 9 extending beyond the end of sleeve 7 whereby hand grip 8 is urged outwardly against the bias of a spring 13 to lift ferrule 16 out of engagement with surface 17. The lever is then pivoted about a pivot 2 to the other end of the slot. The lever operates a valve operating rod 5 through a crank 3. The crank 3 may be spring loaded to urge lever 4 into the brake-release position.
