Abstract

1433823 Clamps GOTAVERKENS ANGTEKNISKA AB 31 May 1973 [19 June 1972] 25916/73 Heading E2B [Also in Division F4] A furnace wall comprises spaced parallel water tubes with blocks 12 of fire-resistant material retained by wedges 13 against those tube surfaces which face the furnace interior. The wedges act against waist portions 18 of the blocks. The surface of each block has a radius r which is slightly smaller than the external radius R of the tube, whereby the block, when first applied to the tube, contacts the tube along its longitudinal edges only. The wedge brings the blocks and tubes into firm contact. A compound to improve heat transfer may have been smeared at the interface. As shown, each block 12 encloses a quarter of the tube circumference. In a modification (Fig. 3 not shown) each block (19) encloses approximately a half of the tube circumference, each half of the block (19) being similar to a block 12. Thus each block (19) initially contacts a tube along edge portions (16) and also along an intermediate portion (20) thereof. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates wedges having grooves (22) which provide fins at the furnace interior. The exposed faces of the blocks may be formed in the same manner. As shown, the wedge 13 is tightened from the outside of the furnace but Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment with tightening from the inside. The water tubes are included in the circulation system of a steam boiler.
