Abstract
1433169 Mineral-mining machines EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U EISENGIESSEREI mbH Gebr 21 Sept 1973 [21 Sept 1972] 44414/73 Heading E1F In a cutter drum type coal mining machine having a cowled cutter drum 5 carried by an arm 3 pivotally mounted on the body 1 of the machine, the cowl 8 is carried by a second arm 10 that is so mounted about the axis of rotation of the arm 3 that it will lie within the outer planes of the region swept by the arm 3. Preferably the arm 10 is so mounted on the machine that when the drum 3 performs an under cut, the arm 10 will be to the side of the arm 3 facing the roof of the seam being cut, and when the drum 5 performs an overcut, the arm 10 will be to the side of the arm 3 facing the floor of the seam. The arm 10 may be connected to a ring 14 disposed coaxially of the drum and rotatably mounted on the cutter drum drive shaft or the housing 16 of the reduction gear supplying the drive to the drum, which at the goaf side may protrude over the ring.
