Abstract

1433042 Two-part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 4 April 1973 [4 April 1972] 16154/73 Heading H2E An electrical connector part for mounting in an opening in a panel comprises, a housing, a pair of resilient wings mounted on the housing, projecting therefrom, towards and past one another in the direction of insertion of the connector part into the panel, and providing oppositely acting panel bearing surfaces for mounting the housing in the panel opening, the bearing surfaces resiliently bearing against opposite panel sides, one of the pairs of wings being deflectable toward the housing to permit passage of its panel bearing surfaces through the panel for bearing against the opposite side thereof after return towards its undeflected position. Pin and socket connector parts 12, 112, respectively, are mounted in a panel aperture 100c identically. Pin connector part 12 comprises an insulating housing 15 of, e.g., pre-set semi-rigid thermoplastics material of generally rectangular shape having a plurality of pin receiving cavities 14 containing axially extending pins 16 which mate with corresponding sockets 116 in part 115 and make electrical contact therewith. An interlock slot 35a engages with dimple 115a, and polarizing notches and/or keyways 15b and 115b are provided to facilitate mating connector parts 12, 112. Opposing resilient wings 22 and 32 are provided with connector bearing surfaces 22b, 32b, which engage opposite sides 100a, 100b of panel 100 when the connector has been inserted through aperture 100c such that wings 32 are deformed inwardly and then snap outwardly when locking lips 32a engage panel surface 100b to lock the device in place. A stop 40 is provided at the position of maximum permitted panel thickness. The connector may be removed from the panel by manual disengagement of bearing surfaces 32b and withdrawal from the panel aperture. Electric connection is made by a plurality of concentric resilient plug-and-socket connectors, crimped to each cable end, which are disposed in each through-aperture 214 by engagement behind abutment 214b both of resilient tine 230 and of two resilient outwardly projecting flairs 240 formed, one on each side of slot (215). A tool (not shown) may be used to deflect these projections inwardly to enable extraction of the contact element. Collar 221 also acts as retention means by frictional engagement with the walls of aperture 214.
