1432795 Looms MECOUTIL SARL 1 June 1973 [1 June 1972] 26324/73 Heading D1E Weft is inserted by a gripper carrier 1 which is carried to the middle of the shed by a pushing rapier 36 where the carrier is transferred to a pulling rapier 55 which pulls the carrier 1 completely through the shed, the carrier then being loaded via a bucket chain 121 onto a conveyor 120 which transports it back to the weft supply end of the loom, where a further bucket chain 121 lifts the shuttle into the path of the pushing rapier 36. The rapiers 36, 55 have resiliently mounted members 42, (61) which have abutments which engage in recesses 22, 19 on the carrier, the abutment on the pushing rapier, being so shaped that the pulley rapier 55 can pull the carrier 1 off the pushing rapier. The abutment 62 of the pulling carrier is disengaged on the receiving side of the shed by a stationary abutment (124) Fig. 15 (not shown) which depresses a web on member (61) to release abutment 62 from recess 19. Weft is engaged on the carrier between a nose 21 and a pivoted arm 7 which is biassed against it by leaf springs, and is released therefrom on the receiving end of the loom by a stationary abutment 34 which acts on a protective cover 6 of the shuttle attached to the arm 7. The rapiers are driven by eccentric drives 103, 104, which are slightly out of phase with each other, so that the pulling rapier is beginning its return movement and moving in the same direction at the same speed as the pushing rapier when the carrier is transferred. Both the rapiers and the carrier slide in a common set of guides 17, Fig. 7 on the sley.
