Abstract

1431916 Polyetherester-polyester blends EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 July 1973 [31 July 1972 9 May 1973] 36154/73 Heading C3R A polyetherester composition has an inherent viscosity of 0À5-4À0 and includes at least one polyester prepared from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid having 8-22 C and an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl glycol having 2-22 C, in which up to 50 mole per cent of the acid may be replaced by one or more other aromatic dicarboxylic acids having 8-22 C or alkyl or cycloalkyl dicarboxylic acids having 2-40 C, and in which up to 50 mole per cent of the glycol may be replaced by one or more other alkyl or cycloalkyl or aralkyl glycols having 2-22 C, the or each polyester having a melting point above 100‹ C. and an inherent viscosity of 0À4-4À0, blended with from 1À5-90% by weight based on total resin of at least one segmented or ordered poly-(ether-ester) having an inherent viscosity of 0À6-4À0 comprising 7-95% by weight of the residue of one or more poly- (ether glycols) or copoly-(ether glycols) having a molecular weight of 400-20,000 in which the alkylene moiety is C 2 _ 12 alkyl or C 4 _ 10 alicyclic, and conversely from 93-5% by weight of segments of the polyester, which polyester segments in their fibre-forming molecular weight range have a melting point above 100‹ C., the amount by weight of the poly-(ether glycol) or copoly-(ether glycol) residue in the total blend being from 1-65%. Examples describe the preparation of a variety of polyetheresters whose physical properties are compared.
