Abstract

1431566 Charging shaft furnaces ARMCO STEEL CORP 18 April 1973 18732/73 Addition to 1324104 Heading F4B The charging apparatus for a shaft furnace disclosed in the parent Specification is modified in that a plurality of series of coaxial conical hoppers 24, 26 connect charging and treating portions 14, 16 of the furnace. The chambers 33, 39 formed between the hoppers and the furnace wall may be exhausted or supplied with gas through connections 18, 20. The portions 14, 16 of the furnace are separated to facilitate the operation of material and gas valves 40, 42. The discharge end of the furnace may be provided with a similar series of coaxial hoppers, Figs. 2-4 (not shown), as disclosed and claimed in divisional Specification 1,431,567.
