Abstract

1431182 Drying fluent material E G PORTER & SONS Ltd 29 June 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 40160/72 Heading F4G An apparatus for drying a fluent material, e.g. poultry manure, comprises an elongate oven 11 receiving heated gas from a heating chamber at one end thereof, means rotatable within the oven for moving the fluent material through the oven against the flow of heated gas and a material outlet from the oven, the arrangement being such that the material is dried without being exposed to flame or heating elements. As shown the means for moving the fluent material comprises a paddle structure 25 and the material outlet an aperture 30 followed by a helical feed screw 31. The feed screw 31 is followed by a grinder and blower unit 32 and ducting 34. Material is fed into the oven 11 by a helical feed screw 21 from a hopper 10, the longitudinally extending walls 19 of the hopper converging towards each other in the downward direction. Two counter rotary paddles 20 are provided in the hopper above the feed screw 21. The heated gas passes out of the oven through an exhaust gas extractor assembly 15 which includes draught stabilizer baffles 40, an oil fired after burner 41, an extractor fan 42 and impingement unit 43 for removing dust and other solid particles from the gases. The heating chamber comprises a pressure jet oil burner (Fig. 2, not shown).
