Abstract

1430113 Endless belt conveyers HARRIS CORP 13 June 1973 [12 July 1972] 28092/73 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions B4 and F2] A conveyer arrangement for feeding successive books through a trimming machine (see Division B4) comprises a pair of mating endless belts 114, 116, Fig. 6, driven by an intermittent drive 250, Fig. 9. In order to allow the books to enter between the belts, the leading end of the upper belt 114 is adapted to be raised and then lowered to a gripping position. The drive mechanism comprises a pair of chains 264, 266, Figs. 9 and 10, rotated by an input shaft 256 and connected by pins 282, 284, 286; the shaft 256 is continuously rotated. An output shaft 260 is provided with a drive member 290 having a pair of slots 298, 300 adapted to be engaged by a respective pin. As shown in Fig. 9, the pin 282 first moves into the slot 298 and then engages with stationary cam tracks 312, 314 thereby causing the drive member to rotate through 180 degrees. A dwell period is provided by means of the spacing between successive pins on the chains.
