Abstract

1430071 Artificial joints DELORO STELLITE (UK) LTD 5 July 1973 [6 July 1972] 31754/72 Heading A5R A cement-restrictor of bio-chemically inert plastics material, the restrictor being in the form of a central hollow member 2 from which extends an integral, substantially annular, flange 4; both the member 2 and the flange 4 being perforated to permit portions of cement to be extruded through the perforations 10 to form a mechanical bond between the restrictor and the body of cement. As shown, the central member 2 comprises a cylindrical wall 6 and a flat roof 8, but it may be hemispheroidal or conical. The restrictor may be machined from a plastics block, heat-formed, or moulded. The plastics material is biochemically inert, e.g. polyethylene and polyester. The restrictor is particularly intended for use in artificial hip joints.
