Abstract

1429934 Particulate dispersions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 May 1973 [24 May 1972 8 Aug 1972 6 Dec 1972] 24453/72 36938/72 and 56198/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C3 and B1] Dispersions of particulate material in liquids (from which the liquid may be evaporated and the resulting particles thermo-formed into sheets) are prepared using a block copolymer (formed by anionic polymerization) having a terminal thermoplastic polymer block soluble in the liquid and a polymer block insoluble in the liquid. The thermoplastic polymer is preferably poly (t-butyl styrene). The block copolymer may also comprise an elastomeric polymer, preferably polyisoprene or polybutadiene, and an insoluble block polymer, preferably polystyrene, polystyrene/poly(divinyl benzene) or poly(methyl methacrylate). Examples 1-3 and 7 describe the formation of sheets of carbon black and TiO 2 . Examples 4-6 describe the preparation of a TiO 2 coating, TiO 2 dispersion and an iron oxide sheet, respectively.
