Abstract

1429621 Displays; printers T A McMULLIN 20 Jan 1975 2419/75 Heading G4H [Also in Division H3] To produce relatively steady digital indication of the value of a noisy electrical signal, repeatedly digitized, a latch 13 retains the latest digital result for comparison with the content of a display register 18 which is adjusted to reduce any difference. The rate of adjustment may depend on the magnitude of the difference and/or the time interval for which the difference has existed. As shown, the difference controls the frequency of a pulse generator 16 feeding the register 18, which is an up/down counter, via an intermediate counter 17. When zero difference is reached, counter 17 is reset to a number in the middle of its counting range, thereby providing "dead space". Display 20 may be seven segment or a printer. Digital phase-meter.-In a radio range receiver, phase-locked loops 2, 4 produce signal phase and reference phase square waveforms from which bi-stable circuit 5 derives pulse width signals which gate, 8, clock pulses (derived by multiplying the frequency of the reference waveform by 360) into a counter 10. Dividers 9, 11 provide averaging over N cycles, output from divider 11 causing transfer of the content of counter 10 to the latch 13 and resetting of the counter 10 to zero. The input signal may alternatively be voltage or frequency.
