Abstract

1429320 Decorative concrete bodies K L BILLGREN 16 Aug 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 38744/73 Heading B5A A concrete body, e.g. a wall, having a decorative surface of exposed ballast material is cast in a mould having a separating screen spaced from the mould walls; the space between it and the front wall is filled with the ballast material and the screen has a mesh size so as to prevent the ballast material from passing into the remainder of the mould cavity, and concrete is then cast into the space between the screen and rear wall so that cement paste therefrom passes through the screen to fill the ballast-receiving space and bind the surface layer ballast material. The surface may be finished, e.g. by sand blasting after dismantling the mould. A reinforcing mesh may be placed in the mould and the screen connected thereto, the screen forming a surface crack reinforcement.
