Abstract
1429041 I C engine throttle linkage NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 5 June 1973 [6 June 1972] 26789/73 Heading F1B Throttle operating mechanism for an I.C. engine carburetter comprising a throttle actuating arm 18 rotatable with a throttle valve 14 and biased to close the throttle by a spring 20, a diaphragm 30 in casing 28 defining chambers 32 and 34 and having a check-valve providing communication between them, an electromagnetically controlled plunger 52 associated with one side of the diaphragm and movable therewith, the plunger having formed therein an air passage 52b, 52c communicating with one of the chambers and an actuating rod 40 connected to the other side of the diaphragm and movable therewith, the actuating arm 18 having an end portion engageable with the actuating rod 40, the air passage being closed by a valve head 52a, formed on the plunger, when the plunger is moved in one direction so that the diaphragm movement is damped, whereas when the plunger is moved in the opposite direction the air passage is opened to remove the damping effect and allow rapid movement of the actuating rod. Plunger 52 passes through a solenoid 54 which is energized to draw valve-head 52a against seat 56 when the ignition switch 62 is closed. When the switch is open, air passage 52b, 52c vents chamber 34 to atmosphere through port 58a and allows the throttle valve 14 to close completely so that running-on is prevented. When the switch is closed the diaphragm is pushed to the left in Fig. 1 and prevents the throttle reaching the closed position, giving a fast idle which reduces toxic compounds in the exhaust gases.
