Abstract

1428599 2-Methylpropane 1,3-diol diacetate BAYER AG 26 Sept 1974 [26 Sept 1973] 41881/74 Heading C2C 2-Methylpropane-1,3-diol diacetate and/or 2-methylpropane-1,3-diol are prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of 2-methylenepropane-1,3-diol diacetate, and the resulting diacetate converted to the diol. The hydrogenation may be at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a noble metal or Raney catalyst on a carrier with a promoter if required. Ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum and Raney nickel or nickel-iron, with gold, iron, and/or cadmium may be used.
