Abstract
1428541 Rollerway conveyers for furnaces H A MCMASTER and N C NITSCHKE 6 March 1973 [17 April 1972] 10868/73 Heading F4B In a continuous furnace for heat treating glass sheets the conveyer comprises a pair of endless belts 40 supported by a plurality of blocks 34 and driven by a wheel assembly 30, a series of ceramic, e.g. fused quartz, rollers 38 with end portions of smaller diameter supported on the upper run 42 of said belts, and brackets 48 between said rollers thus limiting their forward movement. The rollers 38 may be solid or hollow and the brackets 48 have rails (52, Figs. 5-8) across and above the belts and side legs (54) engaging slots (50) in the blocks 34. Alternative brackets (48<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 7 and 8) have outer side flanges limiting longitudinal movement of the rollers and fingers (56) below the rails (52) engaging the top surface of the blocks 34. The furnace is divided into modules, Fig. 3, each having two blocks 34 supported by shafts 64 and 66 from girders 62. Adjustment of an eye bolt 74 allows very limited arcuate movement of the shaft 64 and consequent movement of the associated block. The ends of the rollers, the belts and the brackets may be lubricated, and the upper run of the belts may be heated before entering the furnace. The drive wheel assembly 30, Fig. 10 comprises large wheels 84 receiving the belts 42 and driven by motors 88 through coupled gear-boxes 94 and pinion gearing 90, 92. At the other end of the furnace the belts pass over idler wheels 86, Fig. 11, mounted on a frame 98. Each wheel 86 is supported in a housing (108, Fig. 12) mounted on a pair of rods 100 and tensioned by a cable 104 attached to a pneumatic motor 102.
