Abstract

1428512 Seaming A H MCELROY 28 Aug 1973 40543/73 Heading B5K [Also in Division F2] The apparatus for welding thermoplastics pipes 22, 30 or 48, either coaxially or at a selected angle including a T-shaped joint, the pipes are held by fixed clamps 12, 18 and a movable clamp 14 which can be traversed along rods 24 by operation of a lever 32. The plastics material is heated to fusion point by a removable heater assembly 16 comprising heater blocks shaped to the pipe ends and held against a cylinder block 60 containing electrical resistance elements by pivotal arms 80, 81. To effect a right angle joint (Fig. 2, not shown) the heater blocks have concave and convex dissipative surfaces. The heater is thermostatically controlled and may be kept in a temperature controlled box when not in use (Figs. 9, 10, not shown).
