Abstract

1428403 Oil/water separator SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 9 April 1973 [11 April 1972] 16603/72 Heading B1D A separator for removing solids and oil from water has one or more packs 12 of inclined parallel separator plates disposed between an inlet 16 and clean water outlet 18. Oil separates on the surface 22 and is removed by manually adjusting pipe 24 and is piped to sump 25. Heavy matter settles out in compartment 27; further settlement may occur below packs 12. Cleaned water passes overweir 26. The packs 12 of inclined plates may be arranged in chevron pattern (Fig. 3, not shown), the spaces between being obstructed by baffles. The packs are readily removable and have locating flanges. The frames may be of reinforced plastics or stainless steel and the plates may be of polyester reinforced with glass fibre and approx 2 mm thick with smooth surfaces. The unit may be used at motor service stations.
