Abstract
1427884 1-Nitroanthraquinone BAYER AG 11 Jan 1974 [13 Jan 1973] 01374/74 Heading C2C 1-Nitroanthraquinone is prepared by nitrating anthraquinone in the presence of at least 90% strength nitric acid at a molar ratio of nitric acid to anthraquinone of less than 20 : 1 at from 20‹ to 80‹ C., terminating the reaction by lowering the nitric acid molar fraction in the reaction mixture to no more than 0À85 and/or by lowering the temperature to no more than 20‹ C., precipitating 1-nitroanthraquinone by subsequently adjusting the nitric acid molar fraction to from 0À7 to 0À4 and/or by lowering the temperature to no more than 15‹ C., and separating off the 1-nitroanthraquinone. The nitric acid molar fraction may be lowered by distilling off nitric acid and/or by adding water and/or by adding dilute nitric acid.
